Stacking the Shelves (8)

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews - it's a way for us to share the books we borrowed, bought or received during the week.

No vlog this week, so I've included a line about each book instead.

For review:
The Year of the Rat by Clare Furniss - I really like the sound of this contemp, it's about a girl who has to deal with the death of her mother, and the arrival of her new baby sister

Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott - this has been getting compared to The Hunger Games and has received mixed reviews, but I am intrigued

Nine by James Phelan - this is part of a series, and I have received a couple of them, but I don't think they're for me

Also, I'm going to participate in Bookish Bingo hosted by the ladies at Great Imaginations! Here's a look at the bingo card, and you can check out their blog for more info!

  4. I haven't read any of these books, but I've seen a lot of Fire and Blood around the blogosphere a lot lately. :)

  5. I've seen those Thirteen books at shops and am curious about them. The first one is only $5 or so but I haven't really seen much about them, I heard that they're releasing one a month or something crazy....
Hope you enjoy your other books in the haul! I've read a few Victoria Scott books before but Fire & Flood looks better than those I've read!

  7. I really wish people didn't compare books to the Big Names out there. I just read a book that was like "this is the next John Green" ON THE FRONT COVER. It really put me off. If I wanted to read John Green, I'd go read HIM. This is a new author! I'd rather have something different anyway...*ahem* Sorry, little rant there. x) CAn't wait to know what you think of Fire & Flood too!

    1. I know, it's so annoying and I think ultimately it lets readers down!

  8. Great haul! I've not seen many great reviews for the Last 13 series, so I don't blame you for not wanting to read those, I do like the look of Fire & Flood, but have low expectations. I hope you enjoy your books and thanks for stopping by my haul :)

  9. I haven't heard of The Year of the Rat before today, but your description of the book definitely makes me want to read it. I need to check it out soon.
Fire & Flood was just not the book for me. I read maybe 15 pages before deciding that the book wouldn't be for me. I hope you like it though. :)
    Enjoy your books this week!

  12. That BINGO card seems like a fun idea. Interesting books this week, not ones I'm familiar with. I'll keep an eye out for your reviews. Happy Reading!

  14. I don't think Fire and Flood is anything like the Hunger Games, I think they're just saying that to sell it. It's really good though, like a Dystopian Pokemon. :D

I'm Stacking My Shelves with books you might not have heard of...
