Stacking the Shelves (10)

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews - it's a way for us to share the books we received during the week

Vlog:

For review:

Trouble by Non Pratt
The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Matthieu
The Other Side of Nowhere by Steven Johnstone

Purchased:
The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth (Aus)
Wildlife by Fiona Wood (AusYA) - international readers: this will be published in the USA in September! Read it, you won't regret it!

Library:
Persepolis 1 and 2 by Marjane Satrapi

And, I mentioned in my vlog above that I had reorganised my bookshelves. For those who follow me on Instagram, you will have already seen them, but I want to share them here as well.

This is my to-read shelf and the one I sit in front of to film my vlogs. I decided to try arranging it by colour even though the organiser in me really liked my previous category system. The only category I could not let go of was my review books so they are in the top three shelves, starting in the top left hand corner.

This is my read shelf, it's located upstairs. I only just reorganised it and I found so many books that I no longer want because they're just not what I read anymore, so I am planning to giveaway/donate at least 100 books (these are not shown in the photo). The stacks and box on the right are also to giveaway/donate - these are YA books I've read or been given but that I do not want to keep.

  1. Oh my goodness. I love your color organized shelving! I wish I could do that with mine but I just don't have enough space. Someday I will have it pretty like you! I was laughing with Dan about your TBR shelves though because they are almost as bad as mine, and he always teases me about what a waste of money all those books I haven't read yet are. *eyeroll* And the fact that the books I have actually read are a much smaller portion than the ones I haven't. LOL. It's like all book bloggers have the same problem. :D

    1. I know, I know! I am always a bit embarrassed when I reveal the size of my tbr pile because it's a whole bookshelf :D

  4. OMG I just love your shelving system, it's beautiful! Good on you for giving away/donating so many books. I've done the same because I've recently run out of shelf space too.

    1. Thanks, J! I think if we kept all our books we would run out of space in our houses pretty quickly!

  7. I love that cover of The Wild Girl! So pretty! I'll be interested to know how you like your new bookshelf organization--I think I might go crazy if mine weren't in alphabetical order! I'll also be interested to know what you think of Persepolis! I haven't read many graphic novels, but I want to read more. Have fun at your book club--I really miss my book club!

  8. INTENSE BOOK LOVE. Gaaah! And your bookshelf looks exactly like mine! Except mine is light brown...(IKEA? XD) I'm going to organise my books by colour when I've filled my bookshelf. Sooo, probably at the end of the year. XD I've got the Girl Who..etc. (Heck, what a title!) I won it, so I'm keen to read it, but it's just not top of the TBR right now. XD Happy reading!

  9. How did you get a paperback of The Truth About Alice?!
I love the cover for Wild Girl and your bookshelves are so organised! Mine isn't at all in order and maybe I should change that.

  10. I have to get you around to do mine, they're atrocious. I have five bookshelves in total. My main one is a big dark hardwood one in my main lounge room, the others are just chocolate flat pack ones for my third bedroom that I'm in the process of turning into a study / library. I wish I had Ikea near me, those shelves are just lovely.

That's a whole lotta books to donate, your local op shops will pee themselves with all those beauties coming in. You're so nice Mands :)

  11. The Truth About Alice seems extremely dark and gritty - not sure it's for me - but I'm so excited that Wildlife is being published in the US and I can't wait to read it when it is! I also LOVED The Wild Girl, so I hope you enjoy it as well, Mandee! Enjoy your four-day weekend, dear! :)

  12. I have The Truth About Alice on my review stack too. I love your organization by color but how do you find anything? I'm not a very visual person and couldn't remember what color a book was if someone held a gun to my head. Come see what I got at Ms. Martin Teaches Media and Inside of a Dog. Happy reading!

  15. I like the Australian cover for The Truth About Alice much more than the US version. So pretty! I'll have to check out The Other Side of Nowhere, sounds really good. Is it just me or does that look like Edward from Twilight on the cover? I really love your newly sorted by color bookshelf. It looks awesome! I've always wanted to do that but I don't really have one main bookshelf it's more like books are just tucked everywhere, haha. Hope you enjoy your four day weekend =)

I love the look of organizing by color, Mandee. I wouldn't mind doing that, but I like to keep my authors together. Hmm...I also need to clean out my shelves and giveaway/donate. It's amazing how quickly books start to pile up. Great haul and vlog! :)

  17. I love Elementary too!!! I adore Lucy Liu, haha. WICKED jealous over Trouble!!!! I so, so want to read it!!! It doesn't come out in the States til later. :( Your cover for The Truth About Alice is heaps better than ours. I'm excited to read Wildlife too especially after your praise of it. Your book club is reading The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, so fun! I really adored that book.

Your shelves look LOVELY, Mands x

  18. I do love your shelves! I recently redid mine since my mum is starting to clear out a bunch of my sister's old toys which took up all the shelves we had, but yours look way prettier! I also got The Truth About Alice which I am very excited about. Hope we both like it.

    Lovely haul, Mands! <33

  19. I saw your shelves on instagram, and got inspired to revamp my own (still haven't had time, but hopefully soon :D). Yours are so lovely! I need to donate some books too, I also have a stack of books that just aren't what I read any longer either. The Truth About Alice looks awesome, can't wait to hear what you think of it. And I'm definitely checking out Wildlife when it comes out here! Enjoy your reads :-)

  20. Your shelves are beautiful! I have no room in mine. I've heard great things about Trouble by Non Pratt, I'm really excited to read it. Which publisher sent it to you? Wildlife sounds so good, I'm hoping to read it before the Sydney Writers Festival which I think the author is attending. Great haul, Happy reading :)

  21. I love your shelves. By color is really eye-catching. And that chair! The upholstery is so stinking cute. I've heard great things about Kate Forsyth. I've tried to find Bitter Greens in my library system a couple of times to no avail. I might go to the Book Depot for that one. The Truth About Alice looks really interesting, too. Great haul!

    1. Thanks, Nat! I mostly keep the chair covered to avoid the cats ruining it ;)

  26. Your bookshelves look sooo good! I think colour organised shelves look amazing, but I have far too much book OCD to handle that. I need my series together and other things. I did just purchase two new bookcases though and have completely rearranged EVERYTHING! I have four bookshelves now and it's amazing. Although, confession, one of those is just DVDs and games. I really like the look of Trouble, hoping to read that one myself soon. I can't wait to get to The Truth About Alice, that one looks really good. I hope you enjoy all of your books.

  29. Gorgeous shelves. Absolutely gorgeous. *stares* I ADORE the fact that you have all your books organized by colour - I'm such a big fan of rainbows and colour spectrums so when you combine that aspect with books I get all dreamy hehe XD Of course, the addition of your décor featuring owls, tea and cats...not to mention lovely glass bottles! It all makes such a lovely and magnetic space! Thanks so much for sharing Mands xx

Sweet haul this week too - I hope you'll enjoy The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland... as much as I did :-) Persepolis sounds wonderful and so the Wild Girl! The cover for The Truth About Alice is pretty - I hope you enjoy all of them ^^

  30. I have been seeing Trouble everywhere as of late, it does seem to be getting some really praising reviews too, so I look forward to seeing how you get on with it. I actually saw Wildlife on Edelweiss and pretty much squealed in delight, it's awesome that more and more Aussie books are becoming available for everyone!

  31. Before I moved my books were organised by which books I wanted to be least damaged by the cats climbing on them and rubbing against them, so Harry Potter was on the tallest shelf that they couldn't reach. But since I hardly ever buy books, my bookshelf now is usually which books are due back at the library first, though I don't always read in that order (the beauty of renewals mwahahahaha!) I love that you have enough similarly coloured books to organise by colour though.

As soon as I saw you hold up The Other Side of Nowhere I thought, 'Hey look! Edward is on a book cover!' and I know it's not him, but from far away it looks similar to his angsty New Moon DVD poster.
