Mish Mash Challenge: Blue

The theme for week 9 of the Mish Mash Challenge is: blue. I happened to be reading a book with a very blue cover and I know we have book week coming up soon, but seeing as how I love book manis, I decided to do one this week.

The book is Requiem by Lauren Oliver, the final book in the Delirium series.

I started with two coats of Mode Cosmetics Happy Snaps, a lovely bright blue.

Then I took a little piece of make up sponge and dabbed on O.P.I Teal the Cows Come Home** across the middle of each nail.

On the top of each nail I sponged on China Glaze White Out for the sun and the clouds.

Above the water and below the sun and clouds I used Ulta3 Get Teal and a fine brush to paint the mountains.

On the base of each nail I sponged WnW Nocturnal and over that some Ulta3 Get Teal

Then I used black acrylic paint and a fine brush to paint on the vegetation and to paint Lena on my ring nail.

Done! This is such a pretty book cover and I'm glad I was reading it during blue week!

** This is an old bottle of O.P.I, it's no longer a brand that I will buy.

Hi all, I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Earlier this year I attend BEA (these are the nails I wore while there). One day I lined up with some friends to get a copy of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. We almost didn't as the line, like all lines at BEA, looked like it was a thousand people long, but we were told to jump on the end because we made the cut! I'm so glad we did as I read the book this weekend and it was good, plus I got to meet Rainbow on the day and she had her nails done to match her book:

Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl manicure

Her husband did them for her, how awesome are they? She had Simon and Baz on her thumbs and the rest of her nails were painted to match the colours of the cover. I decided to try my hand at a Fangirl manicure, too!

I started with 1 coat of WnW Tropicalia on my thumb, index, and pinky nails. Then I painted the tips diagonally with WnW I Need a Refresh-Mint.

On the base of my middle and ring nails I used 3 coats of China Glaze White Out. Once dry I used Glam Nails nail art pen in Jet Black to draw the outline of Levi and Cath.

I coloured in their faces using a fine brush and acrylic paint.

Please excuse my thumb! I found this WnW polish to be really thick and I kept knocking my nails on things and had already re-done them once.

I'm pretty happy with how these turned out, this is a book cover that lends itself so well to nail art! Want to see another Fangirl mani? Check out Britt's fantastic version!

Mish Mash Challenge: Cold

The theme for week 8 of the Mish Mash Challenge is: cold. I knew straight away what I wanted to do: ice cream nails! They're inspired by a new pair of leggings.

I used Ulta3 Lilac Bloom for the base of the lilac nails, and China Glaze White Out for the white nails. The ice creams were done with acrylic paint - I thought it was time to give them a go.

This didn't turn out like I thought it would, it was a lot better in my head! But I'm glad I did them, these leggings were calling out to be copied onto my nails!

Mish Mash Challenge: Inexpensive polish

It's week seven of the Mish Mash Challenge, hosted by Kimber's Lacquer Korner. This week the theme is: inexpensive polish.

I chose two Aussie brands: Ulta3 and Mode Cosmetics. Ulta3 retail for $2 - $2.25 and Mode Cosmetics are $2.45 or 2 for $4.

I decided to do a skittlette and I used Ulta3 Peach Paradise as the base of each nail. I followed that up with Ulta3 Pink Hibiscus on my middle and ring nails. And finally I used Ulta3 Turquoise Treasure.

On my pinky nail I dabbed on 3 coats of Mode Cosmetics Nail-Holic - it's a clear base with multicoloured round and hex glitter.

This is a really bright mani, perfect for the lovely spring weather we're having!

Almost English

My current read at the mo is Almost English by Charlotte Mendelson and I did my nails to match because I've wanted to since I first received the book.

I started with 2 coats of China Glaze White Out

Once dry I used some Bic Mark It pens to draw on the girl, Marina, as well as a couple of floral graphics used on the cover.

I had another nail art pen in mind when it came to the fleur-de-lis on my ring nail, but unfortunately I did my nails first thing in the morning while my boyfriend was still asleep and I didn't want to go searching for it in our ensuite (that's where I keep all my polish) and wake him up in the process.

For the most part I'm happy with how these turned out although I do wish I'd been able to fit all of Marina on my nail, but by the time I'd drawn her hair and head I knew I'd made her too large, so her legs got left off!

This is such a pretty cover and it's one that lends itself well to being turned into a manicure - thank you, cover designer!

Mish Mash Challenge: Hot

Evening all! It's the sixth week of Kimber's Mish Mash Challenge and this week the theme is hot! I instantly thought of flame nails, which I have used as an accent before. This time I did a flame skittlette!

On my thumb and index nails are 2 coats of Ulta3 Scarlet.

On the rest of my nails I used 2 coats of Ulta3 Exotic Canary. On my pinky I added 2 coats of WnW Penny for Your Thoughts.

For the flames I used a thin brush and the following polishes: Ulta3 Peach Paradise, Ulta3 Scarlet, and Ulta3 Pepper Pot.

I can't believe we're already six weeks in, this challenge is flying by! I'm off to check out what the rest of the gang did!

Hate is Such a Strong Word

I love, love, love Aussie YA novels and the book I want to feature today is one of my new faves! It's Hate is Such a Strong Word by Sarah Ayoub. I wasn't going to do a mani for this as there was no graphic or image to feature, but I attended the book launch last week and wanted to do something for it :)

I used 2 coats of Nail It! Belle Vista as the base for this manicure. Once dry I used Glam Nails nail art pen in Jet Black to write out the title of the novel.

The book is so good and the book launch was wonderful, too!
