Hey there! I had a whirlwind week in Portland filled with lots of vegan eats and good times with friends! I'm sorry if you follow me via Instagram and have had to put up with dozens of photos of food rather than polish (but food photos are good too, right?!) I didn't want to (and couldn't) remove my previous mani but I finally went and had it professionally removed today in NYC, so I am in the middle of doing a new book manicure now and will hopefully have some nail photos up soon!

Painting my nails reminded me that it had been a week since I posted, so I thought I better share another manicure I did before I left for my holiday.

This mani is for Skylark by Meagan Spooner. Meagan tweeted me a little while back when some authors were re-tweeting my posts so when a friend, Shaheen, was kind enough to send me a spare copy of Skylark, I knew I had to do my nails to match.

I started with two coats of Orly Liquid Vinyl. I took a small piece of make up sponge and added Wet N Wild On a Trip to the top of each nail, followed by Mode Luv-A-Lot. On the middle of each nail I sponged on Nail It! Belle Vista. Just above the tips I sponged Zoya Caitlin. Finally I dabbed on some Barry M Matt White.

I really wanted to include some of the thorny swirls featured on the cover but when I tried to do them with a nail art pen they did not show up well against the background colours, and when I did them with grey and silver polish I had the same problem, so I left this mani as is even though I would have preferred to add more detail.

And that's it for today! Hopefully I can get a few more posts up while I'm on holiday :)

The Book of Broken Hearts

Hi hi! I've been in L.A for almost for 5 days and I am loving it! My friend Maggie and I have been hanging out, eating at lots of fantastic vegan places and I've done plenty of nail shopping at pharmacies, Disneyland, and at nail supply stores. I got to meet fellow polish blogger, Thuy aka The Painted Ninja, yesterday - we had a great time shopping and talking polish :)

On Friday I went to Hey, Nice Nails in Long Beach. As soon as I heard about sisters Donne and Ginny I have wanted to go and I'm so glad I got an appointment. Their salon is awesome and they were so lovely.

I asked Donne to do a book mani for me and I picked The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler as I was attending a book tour stop that night. Donne took one look at the cover image, grabbed the colours she needed and set to work. I was impressed with how she represented the cover in manicure form and I really enjoyed chatting with her, Ginny, and their other customer (who got some amazing prom nails done!)

I love this look and because it was done with gels, I am still wearing it today and it looks just as perfect as it did on Friday :)

If you're in Long Beach and want some fantastic nail art done, book yourself in with these girls!

Six Impossible Things

Hey all! I'm in L.A right now and have had the best day :)

My last mani, Wildlife, is preceded by the book I want to feature today: Six Impossible Things by Fiona Wood - another of my fave reads.

I started with a base of Barry M Matt White then I added a layer of Butter London Hardwear Top Coat.

Once dry I used Glam nails nail art pen in Emerald Green to draw the symbols on. The colour doesn't match the cover but I did not want to attempt this with a brush and polish.

Then I used Glam Nails nail art pen in Cherry Red for the key on the index finger. And finally for the blue tips I used Mode Cosmetics Hook Me Up.

I've been up for 34 hours now, so I think it's finally time for me to get some sleep! Have a great day/night :)

Wildlife by Fiona Wood

Hey kids! Today I have manicure to match a soon-to-be released Aussie YA book: Wildlife by Fiona Wood. It is such a fantastic book, one of my faves this year.

For this mani I started with a base of Zoya Robyn. Then I used a piece of make up sponge and Barry M Matt White to add on the clouds.

For the grass I sponged using Australis Limited Edition 2 followed by Nubar Green tea. I dotted on the flowers with Ulta3 Frangipani

Onto the boots! I was determined to include these even though I knew I'd have to make them pretty small. For the boots on my ring finger I used a fine brush, Nail It! Space Invaders, and Wet N Wild Nocturnal for a bit of detail. The socks were done with Ulta3 Frangipani and Zoya Perry.

For the ones on my middle finger I used Zoya Gemma and Ulta3 Scarlet for the laces. The socks were done with Butter London Lady Muck.

I didn't love these at first but they grew on me and I wore them for almost a week, plus they were a nice reminder of the story which I adored :)

I'm heading off to the USA this week but I have a few more posts scheduled and hopefully I'll have time to do some more manis and get my nails done while I'm in the States!

Dead Romantic

Morning all! A few weeks ago I was feeling a bit uninspired nail-wise so I asked my boyfriend to pick the next book for me. He chose Dead Romantic by CJ Skuse based on the spine which features the same graphics as the front cover.

On my index and ring fingers I started with a base of Orly Liquid Vinyl. Then I used Barry M Matt White and a thin brush to paint the skull and heart. I then went over the skull with Australis Acid Rain and over the heart with Sinful Colors Cream Pink.

For the blue nails I used Sinful Colors Gorgeous and then a fine brush and Barry M Matt White to paint the lightening and Orly Liquid Vinyl for the stitches.

I had to re-do this one, the first skull I painted looked more like a jellyfish! I still think mine looks less skull-like that the book but I was happy because I had recently purchased the green polish and it matched perfectly.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, I'm planning on packing my suitcase in preparation for my flight to the USA next week!

Smart Girls Get What They Want

Evening all! I'm a real sucker for cute covers and this book definitely qualifies: Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer. The story is really sweet and fun, and while I read it last year, I was reminded of it recently so I decided to do a matching mani.

I started with a base of China Glaze For Audrey. On the middle of each nail I sponged on Barry M Blue Moon and on the tips I sponged using Barry M Matt White. Then I painted the tips with Orly Liquid Vinyl.

For the stripey nails I began with a base of Barry M Matt White, then I taped off the nails using striping tape and filled in the gaps using Sinful Colors Boogie Nights.

The cover of this book and Sarah's new release have undergone a cover change, the new ones are gorgeous, but I have to say I'm glad I got a chance to convert this one into a mani because it has all the elements I find easiest to re-create: great colours and a fun pattern.

How to Keep a Boy from Kissing You

Hey everyone, I hope you've had a good start to the week!

I read a really fun book last week, How to Keep a Boy from Kissing You, and did my nails to match the colours and the graphics on the cover.

I did a post last week on easy nail art and included chevron-fishtail nails (there's a tute at Chalkboard Nails), so I decided to do some for this book, using the colours of the title and the author's name. The base is Barry M Matt White, the pink is an unnamed Australis (it came in a pack of 3), and the blue is Zoya Yummy.

On the index finger I used the same pink polish and a fine brush to do the lips. On my ring finger I used Glam Nails nail art pen in Jet Black to draw the outline of Aurora (the main character). I sponged Australis Sinfully Sweet to colour in her dress, Urban Decay Naked for her hair, and dabbed a bit of the unnamed pink on her lips.

My Aurora doesn't have quite the same facial expression as on the cover - at this scale it was hard to do any more detail, but I'm happy with how she turned out.

I've got a few more manis to share before I head off to the USA next week (excitement!) If you have any tips on good nail supply stores in L.A, PDX, or NYC, let me know!

To Kill a Mockingbird

Happy Friday, folks! Recently I've been reading a lot of classics via audio books and I adored both the story and the cover of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, so I decided to do a manicure to match.

For the green nails I used 2 coats of Butter London Bossy Boots. Then I used striping tape to tape off two lines, one I painted with Orly Liquid Vinyl and the other with Zoya Jancyn.

For the orange nails I used 2 coats of Zoya Jancyn. To paint the tree I used Orly Liquid Vinyl and a fine brush, and for the leaves Butter London Bossy Boots which I dabbed on using a brush.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend :)
